Ms. Springett heard a baby deer cry near her home. Just days earlier she had spotted it and photographed it. But now it seemed that somehow the deer had become orphaned or been abandoned. She waited three days for mom to return, but when the fawn was close to death she bought her in and began feeding her goat’s milk. She kept the baby deer close to her pet dog, Kate, for warmth and watched in amazement as she immediately adopted it.
