Five Key Insights To Master Love

Five Insights To MasterLove

Every great mystic and saint tells us that the very fabric of the Universe vibrates at the frequency of love. Though we know this to be true in our bones, we still struggle to find and keep love. Why is this? And what can we do to keep love in our lives? Here are five insights:

1. We use the wrong metaphor
It is easy to be swept away by the sweet poetry and magic of love. When love carries us away in its arms we feel whole. We feel unified with our lover and we believe that we have found our soul mate. For a lucky few this indeed is a permanent state, but for most this is the beginning of a journey not its end. For most the idea of love as unification with another soul is a false metaphor as it implies that having temporarily achieved this state you have reached your destination.

2. Love is about two people not one
Even though the magical power of love seems to fuse lovers together, it is important to understand that the long-term theme of love is about two distinct individuals. The better metaphor of love is that it is about two intertwined stories that have chosen to unfold together. Continue reading

Yoga Healed Me!

Yoga Healed Me

People come to their yoga mats for different reasons. For me, today, I would say that yoga keeps me grounded, balanced and sane. Literally. About 12 years ago, I wasn’t so balanced. I wasn’t feeling “normal” so I visited my doctor, who did a physical and ran blood work. I had symptoms that centered around fatigue, stress and anxiety and was diagnosed with postpartum depression, mono and Epstein-Barr syndrome. Believe me, it was not a fun time. I was trying my best to be a good wife, mother, and employee, and I just wanted to push it all away. My doc prescribed an anti-depressant and while I at least began to “level out,” I couldn’t say I felt fantastic either. After about 6 weeks of taking Zoloft I stopped taking it and decided I wanted to try some other alternatives to medicine.

I had seen some yoga DVDs in a catalog and thought that that would be a good starting point. I began with a basic yoga practice taught by Patricia Walden and Rodney Yee on a DVD I got from Gaiam. I found that I felt stronger physically, was smiling more often and was being pulled away from despair. I felt less scattered and more focused. I knew I was on the right self-care track, but also found that it was hard to stay motivated to practice at home.

About two months later, a friend invited me to join her at a “power yoga” class. The room was heated to a toasty 90 degrees, so the yoga practice I was growing to love was now a “real” workout. Boy, did I sweat! I felt I was melting with every asana. I realized that not only was this self-care a great workout, but it included practice for the mind too. After each class, my clothes and mat were saturated, and I felt clear-headed, but more importantly, I was feeling healed. There was no question that I was hooked. I felt empowered. I felt strong. I wanted to be a good wife and mother again. Continue reading

Is There Baseball In Heaven?

Baseball In Heaven

Two old men, Abe and Sol, sit on a park bench feeding pigeons and talking about baseball. Abe turns to Sol and asks, “Do you think there’s baseball in Heaven?”

Sol thinks about it for a minute and replies, “I dunno. But let’s make a deal — if I die first, I’ll come back and tell you if there’s baseball in Heaven, and if you die first, you do the same.”

They shake on it and sadly, a few months later, poor Abe passes on. Soon afterward, Sol sits in the park feeding the pigeons by himself and hears a voice whisper, “Sol… Sol… .”

Sol responds, “Abe! Is that you?”

“Yes it is, Sol,” whispers Abe’s ghost.

Sol, still amazed, asks, “So, is there baseball in Heaven?”

“Well,” says Abe, “I’ve got good news and bad news.”

“Gimme the good news first,” says Sol.

Abe says, “Well, there is baseball in Heaven.”

Sol says, “That’s great! What news could be bad enough to ruin that?”

Abe sighs and whispers, “You’re pitching on Friday.”

Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are

In this spectacular talk, Amy Cuddy shows the powerful impact body language has on our lives. She shows that just two-minutes of “power posture” has a dramatic impact on hormones, mood, and body language. We can now imagine the impact of a full 1 hour class of yoga postures on our body! Many yoga postures are what Amy would call “power postures”, designed to open up the body and take up more space. (Or open up specific areas of our bodies). This video throws significant light on how yoga works and it also shows that you can improve the outcome of a significant meeting or interview by doing just a 2-minute simple exercise before it.

Amy has shown not only through her scientific studies, but also by her personal example that it is possible to make significant changes in life outcome by practicing two minutes of “power posture”. She has shown that not only does this lead to “fake it till you make it”, but eventually gets you to “fake it till you become it”.

Two Twins Talking In The Womb…

Two Babies Talking In The Womb

Two twins were talking in the womb:

Tell me, do you believe in life after birth?

Of course. After birth comes life. Perhaps we are here to prepare for what comes after birth.

Forget it! After birth there is nothing! From there, no one has returned! And besides, what would it look like?

I do not know exactly, but I feel that there are lights everywhere … Perhaps we walk on our own feet, and eat with our mouth.

This is utterly stupid! Walking isn’t possible! And how can we eat with that ridiculous mouth? Can’t you see the umbilical cord? And for that matter, think about it for a second: postnatal life isn’t possible because the cord is too short.

Yes, but I think there is definitely something, just in a different way than what we call life.

You’re stupid. Birth is the end of life and that’s it. Continue reading
