Raynaud’s Relief With Hot Yoga

Raynauds PhenomenonOne month since my first visit to Yoga Passion & I feel like I am on a journey of discovery. I don’t know what I’ll find but it keeps luring me on. I’ve already had one revelation to share with you. I have a condition known as Raynaud’s Phenomenon brought on by exposure to cold, stress & rheumatoid arthritis. With Raynaud’s the blood flow to the extremities– hands, feet, etc. — gets interrupted & the blood vessels go into spasms. During the spasms, my hands will turn totally white, then purple, then red & finally return to normal. The spasms may be brief or can last for extended periods. I can assure you that the spasms are not fun … and sometimes really, really, really hurt.

At any rate…

One evening last week I was home after class and it struck me with such a ‘thud’ that I said out loud “Oh, my God!” I suddenly realized on any evening that I had attended yoga, I didn’t have any bouts with Raynaud’s. My hands were perfectly fine. (Of course, every other part of my body ached, but my hands were fine!) This almost seems to good to be true, yet I have been to three more classes since the ‘revelation’ and each time, no Raynaud’s that evening!

You cannot possibly know how excited I am & how I look forward to telling my doctor on my next visit. If yoga can have this effect on me in 1 month, then do you think by the end of 3 months, I will have lost 15 pounds & regained the body of a 30-year-old? Seriously, it is very special. As I said above, I look forward to continuing the journey.

The Difference Between Complete And Finished

Difference Between Finished And CompleteWhat is the difference between the words Complete and Finished? No English dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between these two words.

In a recent linguistic competition held in London and attended by the best linguists in the world, Samsundar Balgobin, a Guyanese man was the clear winner with a standing ovation lasting over 5 minutes. Here is his answer:

When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. And when you marry the wrong one, you are FINISHED.

And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!

Do We Reincarnate?

When James Leininger, age 2, started babbling about being a fighter pilot in World War II, his family did not know what to make of it. James offered many specific details, and his father, Bruce, decided to research these just to disprove the whole notion that a World War II pilot has reincarnated as his son. What he found stunned him. There were too many details that were not in the public domain to make this a coincidental happenstance. Watch the video and decide for yourself.

The aim of this post is not to prove reincarnation. But the idea that consciousness is something more than an after-effect of the human brain is central to yoga (and most religious and spiritual traditions). The fact that at least some of us do reincarnate seems to provide confirmation on yogic ideas about consciousness.

If you dig deeper you will find that this is not an isolated case. Jim Tucker is the medical director and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He has researched more than 2500 cases of children who seem to remember past lives. Jim Tucker’s work indicates that some children do have past life memories that can be independently verified. He has also found it is usual for past life memories to dissipate after the age of six, with the child wanting to move on with current life rather than remain associated with a previous birth.

Get Moving!

Sitting At WorkTwo recent studies warn us on the dangers of sitting. The numbers are staggering. For every hour we remain seated we lose more than 20 minutes of our lives! So the message is clear: Get Moving! But how to do it? Here are some tips:

1. Print at the furthermost printer in your office.
Set up the default printer to be the one that is the most further away from your desk. That should help you get some exercise every time you print something.

2. Park at some distance from the entrance to the grocery store.
Why look for parking near the entrance? Instead why not park at that distant point under the shade of a tree? That will keep your car cool and also give you chance to free up your legs as you rush into the store and back.

3. While watching TV get up and start walking on every commercial break.
Why switch channels or fast-forward when commercials interrupt? Instead try to walk around and get a few chores done that require you to move about. Continue reading
